Educator Communities

For my age, people usually expect me to be more involved in social media sites than I actually am. I really only use Facebook and instagram occasionally! I hate seeing the stupid political rants that people go off on, so a few months ago I decided to stay away and realized I don't really need to live on social media anymore. Anyways, I was recommended by my mentor to join a few different facebook groups for educators and I felt like I had to, so I did. I thought to myself, she's going to see that I either became a member of the facebook group or not, so I just joined them. Quite honestly, I have looked at them MAYBE once or twice until this week and had no idea what people posted in them. After looking through them in the last week or so, I was so excited to see how happy and helpful teachers can be to one another!

I tried for a while to go back and find this post that really stood out to me, but people post in this group so frequently that it was so hard for me to find it... but I will try to reiterate it as best as I can!! Sorry... The one post in particular that struck me was a young woman posting about her mom who was also a teacher and got screwed over by her school and was forced into teaching a social studies class (outside of her certification) in her last year of teaching. The girl wrote "as if virtual teaching wasn't enough of a transition for my 54 year old mother, now she is being forced into teaching one social studies class! Does anyone have any resources of worksheets, powerpoints, digital INBs, or ANYTHING they can give to mother to help her? Anything would be seriously appreciated!" And I kid you not there were 100s of comments on this post of all kinds of people offering up so much help for this woman. I was so overwhelmed with happiness to know that these strangers are all helping each other without ever having met one another! Hear me out... I didn't think teachers were mean to other teachers.... I just never thought they were as willing to hand out free resources like this especially when there are websites out there like teachers pay teachers and such. So my thought was always like if you can sell your materials... why would you give them to other people for free? Boy was I wrong... I was/am just so overwhelmed with happiness

The groups that I am currently in... if anyone is interested in joining are:

Digital INBs & Binders

Bitmoji Craze for Educators

Both of these groups certainly have many posts regarding what their exact titles are.. but since COVID, these are more like support groups for teachers. I highly recommend joining for all the positivity and support that is on there!

My goal for this week was to "lurk" on these pages... and my goal for next week will be to post or comment!! Let's see how it goes!

Hope everyone's having a great day off today on Monday :)
