Alexa was my partner this week as we are working on our CT learning experiences! She teaches science so it was super interesting for me to see what she came up with. I am sure she would agree with me in saying that so many people often group math and science together for a lot of different things... when they could not be more different. It's almost weird to me that people assume if you are good at one, you would be good at the other but that is certainly not true! I think Alexa and I agreed that I am not the best at science and she is not the best at math so it was cool to playtest activities that we really had no prior knowledge in. (Sorry correction, we definitely have prior knowledge from grade school, but forgot most of it :) )
In her activities she used a lot of partner ideas which is awesome to use in class. The clay modeling activity was definitely my favorite because I am such a hands on learner! Science is a great subject to use hands on activities with your students because I think this is what really solidifies their understanding. I can still remember activities I did in science all the way back to middle school because they stuck with me so much! Alexa's ideas are all about engaging her students, regardless of the kind of learner they may be. This is really what all teachers should strive for, and I had fun trying out some of her activities! This is a great way to teach science and I really liked all of her hands on and group/partner ideas.
